If you’re reading this, you’re probably the same as me. Over the last several years you’ve spent your life slaving away at the expense of other people whether it was at work or at home – but never made time for yourself. Since the stay-at-home order, I’ve been taking self-care seriously! And I have decided to share what I’ve learnt about making self-care part of your daily routine.
Self-care is the act of taking care of yourself by focusing on your needs and wants. It can come in many forms such as practical, emotional, or even material (a day at the spa doesn’t sound too bad). Before we get into it, we have to get over the idea that self-care equals selfish. Looking after yourself does not mean you’re being selfish, never feel the need to prioritise others over yourself, you’re just as important.
I personally really value my sleep, but for others it could be anything from 10 step skincare routines to simply sitting on the couch and binge watching your favourite show with snacks (that’s right up my alley too). All jokes aside, self-care is important, but can look very different from person to person. It all depends on what you need all feel your body needs.
If you are struggling to think of some ideas to get you started, here are some of the things that the team and I, have found really helpful.
1. Go to the gym / workout
2. Drink lots of water
3. Have a nap during the day
4. Go out to eat
5. Regular Yoga & Meditation
6. Look after your overall health
7. Get an ‘early’ goodnight’s sleep
8. Limit time on social media
9. Prayer & Reflection
Collectively, as a skincare company, it is only natural that our favourite type of self-care is practicing a soothing skincare routine. A skincare routine is the perfect way to get in a bit of “me time” each day and have your body feeling refreshed and relaxed. To start my skincare routine, first I use a gentle cleanser and wash my face with lukewarm water, then I may exfoliate. I always finish off with the mango orange butter because I love the scent, softness, and suppleness of my face afterwards.
